Description

This course is meant to provide an overview of the Reintegration Program. This program was created during an occupational therapy doctoral capstone experience to address occupational disruption from oncology-related body changes. Research acknowledges the prevalence of body image and identity disruption among patients with cancer; however, there is very little to no research that introduces occupational therapy interventions to address these concerns. The Reintegration Program was designed and created to be utilized by an outpatient occupational therapists at MD Anderson. The goal of this program is to begin to bridge the gap in the literature and empower patients to participate in meaningful activities regardless of the oncology-related changes they have experienced.

This course provides an overview of the research done to complete a needs assessment and literature review to justify the need and relevance of this program. Throughout the course, you will also gain information about the objectives, learning activities, and artifacts set and created for the capstone experience and program development. All documents created for the Reintegration program are attached to the course in the Reintegration Program Handbook. These documents were also organized in a binder for easier access for the occupational therapists who will be implementing this program, the materials for each activity are also organized in a way that can be quickly accessed. The goal of organizing all program documents and material is to ensure the Reintegration Program is available to use with applicable patients, in the hopes of completing a retrospective study to determine the effectiveness of the program.
